Location

Experience some of the most breathtaking scenery that Northern Ireland has to offer. Nestled on the western shores of Strangford Lough, the Lodge is located in the townland of Quarterland, close to the picturesque village of Killinchy, in County Down.

Just 35 minutes from Belfast and 2 hours from Dublin, guests will feel like they’re a million miles from the stresses of everyday life. The Lodge is visible from the surrounding roads and is easily accessible by road, train or bus.

Explore the Area

We encourage all of our guests to explore the locality and discover how truly special this area is. Whether you’re a keen birdwatcher, sailor, watersports enthusiast, walker, historian or film buff there’s something for everyone!

Guests are free to use the bicycles available at the Lodge, while our changing rooms and shower rooms make it easy to switch activities. And after a day spent adventuring, relax in our 5* spa facilities featuring steam room, sauna and outdoor hot tub.

The hiring Kayaks can be made through The Strangford Lough Activity Centre.  Excursions and activities can be organised on your behalf if you wish.

A paradise for outdoor enthusiasts

Hire a kayak and explore the many hidden coves and inlets on the Lough, or take a boat tour and relax while observing the rich wildlife and diverse habitats that surround it. Stroll through the narrow country lanes on foot, or drive the 50-mile scenic loop around the Lough. The magical Mourne Mountains are less than an hour away.

Step back in time

For history enthusiasts, Strangford Lough offers an enticing glimpse into the past. Prehistoric megaliths dot the landscape and St. Patrick is said to have sailed up the Lough in AD432. Many monastic settlements were established here - Inch, Nendrum and Greyabbey are well worth a visit. The Vikings were regular visitors and the name Strangford is Norse for 'Strangfyorthe', meaning 'the place of strong currents' or 'strong fjord'.

A utopia for nature lovers

Strangford Lough is one of only three statutory Marine Nature Reserves in the UK and a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s also the largest sea lough in the British Isle and the wealth of wildlife here is some of the best in Europe. Expect to see Buzzards, Grey Seals, Brent Geese and even Porpoises.

Cinematic Locations

It’s fitting that the area has become a mecca for key film locations. Most recently Castle Ward has been used as the backdrop for Winterfell in Game of Thrones® and Mount Stewart in Dracula Untold. But you don’t have to be a fan of the shows to enjoy these spectacular locations.

Dine and Shop

In the charming local towns and villages you’ll find ample opportunities to shop and dine. Full of local arts and crafts, antiques and galleries, there’s plenty of choices when it comes to retail therapy. The area also boasts a wealth of food establishments, from cosy traditional pubs to contemporary gastronomic delights.
